Mother Nature Makes the Call Again At ODS – Rain….......June 7, 2003

Mother Nature was the winner again at the Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, VA., as forecasted heavy rains pelted the 3/8 mile facility for the 5th time in 8 tries in 2003. New ODS track promoters had no choice but to cancel all activities at the famed speedway, with the forecast being for rain all day long. Scheduled activities included, for the first time ever, a 20 lap “Shootout” at the conclusion of all NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Model events for the evening. A special event, sponsored by Britt Construction in Chantilly, VA. was for the top 5 in each of the scheduled 50 lap events for the Late Models. They would compete for 20 laps for an additional purse at night’s end. That event, at the time of this release, has not yet been re-scheduled. Also on the schedule was a 50 lap feature for the Redman Fleet Service Grand Stocks, 30 laps for the Mini Stocks, and 25 laps for the Gaston Automotive Speedway Sportsman. The Legends were to return for a 30 lap feature as well.
At this time, next week’s activities, along with the remaining 2003 schedule, are TBD, as ODS officials are modifying the remaining schedule to accommodate the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series criteria. To be eligible for any National or Regional consideration, drivers in the Late Model division must compete in at least 18 races prior to the September 21st deadline.
