ODS Suffers First Rainout This Season .
For the first time in 2001, rains have halted activities at the Old Dominion
Speedway in Manassas, Va. Early morning showers, combined with high humidity, and an
equally dreary forecast for the remainder of the evening, forced track promoter Dick Gore
to cancel the nights events. "There was so much rain last night, anyone who
would have got into the grass on the backstraight would have splashed water all over the
place, forcing a lengthy caution period. Plus, with the humidity the way it was and the
forecast, I just felt it was the best thing to do. Had we got any rain during the program,
it would have taken too long to dry the track," Gore said.
Next Saturday night, the Lustine Chevrolet 200, the first of five 200 lap events in 2001,
is scheduled for the Baileys NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stock Cars. Also
on the schedule is a 50 lap feature for the Redman Fleet Service Grand Stocks, 30 laps for
the D&K Electric / Aldie Construction Mini Stocks, and 25 laps for the Gaston
Automotive Speedway Sportsman. In addition, the BDE Racing Series will feature 20 lap
events for both the Champ Karts and the Mini Cups. Racing activities get underway with
Lustine Chevrolet Quick Qualifying at 5:15 PM. The Champs and Mini Cups take to the track
at 6:30 PM, with the stock cars taking the green at 7:00 PM.
