Butler Takes Home Feature Win In NASCAR 200………….

Brandon Butler from Petersburg Va. took home his first win since 1994, leading the final laps in the NASCAR 200 lap feature for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Model Stock cars. Butler took over the top spot after the early leaders tangled with a spinning car, and held off the late charges of National Champion Mark McFarland for the win. Butler had the quick time of the evening in qualifying with a 15.579 lap around the famed 3/8 mile oval in his Bailey's Chevrolet, but started from 4th spot after the Manassas Dodge Dash For The Cash. The green dropped on the 22 car field, with polesitter and Dash winner Dustin Storm taking the lead early over outside polesitter Chris Donnelly. Mike Southard, who had started from the third spot, put Donnelly back a spot quickly, then set his sights on Storm. Southard would eventually take over the top spot before 75 lap mark. After a brief caution, Storm retook the lead from Southard, and the two drivers appeared to be prepared to settle the win between them. But the spinning car of Jack Crocker ended both driver's hopes of a win, as they collected Crocker's car in turn 2. Butler took over the lead at that point, then had a rear view mirror full of McFarland, who had started from the 22nd spot. But Butler had conserved his tires throughout extra distance event, and was too strong for McFarland, beating him to the line by 5 car lengths. Jack Bailey, who had started deep in the field in the 15tn spot, brought his Ford home in the third position, earning him the MARF Hard Charger Award. Dion Ciccarelli finished fourth, while Richard Boswell Jr. rounded out the top five. Willard Lawrence took home win number 2 in 2004, taking the checkers in the 50 lap Redman Fleet Service Grand Stock division. Lawrence took over the top spot on a restart as early leader Les Miranda and John Tolliver got together as the green flag waved. Finishing second was rookie Michael Hardin, followed by Bryan Short, Miranda, and Tolliver. Tom Beckman from Bristow Va. took home his second win of the young season in the Springfield Toyota Mini Modified 30 lap feature. Beckman beat Colt White to the line by less than two car lengths. David Smith from Sterling Va. picked up his first ever feature win in the wild 25 lap Winning Edge Performance and Graphics Speedway Sportsman feature. Next Saturday night, the schedule will include twin 50 lap Late Model features, along with a 100 lap Grand Stock Feature, a 30 lap Mini Modified feature, and a 25 lap Speedway Sportsman feature. Also on the schedule are the BDE Racing Series Mini Cups. Practice begins at 2PM, qualifying begins at 4PM, pre-race starts at 6PM, with racing action taking the green at 7PM.
